In many French and Italian castles, the lord&#8217;s bed is placed on a pedestal, adorned with a canopy and family coat of arms: an <strong data-start=\"3118\" data-end=\"3147\"> architecture in the data-end=\"3709\" \/> Versailles becomes its emblem, with the famous &#8220;lit de parade&#8221; of Louis XIV, where the Sun King receives ministers and ambassadors still in their pajamas. <\/p> \n <p data-start=\"3856\" data-end=\"3891\"> Sleeping, now, is a political act. <\/p> \n <h2 data-start=\"3898\" data-end=\"3964\"> <strong data-start=\"3901\" data-end=\"3964\"> Nineteenth century and the industrial revolution: the modern bed was born <\/strong> <\/h2> \n <p data-start=\"3966\" data-end=\"4311\"> With the Industrial Revolution the bed changed its nature. <br data-start=\"4020\" data-end=\"4023\" \/> Wrought iron structures replace wood, hygienic and lighter, in response to epidemics that required healthier spaces. <br data-start=\"4161\" data-end=\"4164\" \/> Design becomes democratic: <strong data-start=\"4193\" data-end=\"4236\"> the first mass-produced beds are born <\/strong>, and the bedroom becomes a bourgeois, private, functional environment. <\/p> \n <p data-start=\"4313\" data-end=\"4579\"> It is in this period that the <strong data-start=\"4353\" data-end=\"4383\"> modern double bed <\/strong> also appears, symbol of family union and the new idea of domestic intimacy. <br data-start=\"4456\" data-end=\"4459\" \/> The shape remains simple, but there is a new attention to comfort, spring mattresses, slats and fabrics. <\/p> \n <h2 data-start=\"4586\" data-end=\"4634\"> <strong data-start=\"4589\" data-end=\"4634\"> Twentieth century: from Bauhaus to Italian design <\/strong> <\/h2> \n <p> <img loading=\"lazy\" revolution: removable, customizable, elegant. <br data-start=\"5251\" data-end=\"5254\" \/> Since then, the bed is no longer just a piece of furniture, but <strong data-start=\"5303\" data-end=\"5317\"> a system <\/strong> . <br data-start=\"5318\" data-end=\"5321\" \/> Storage beds, integrated sommiers and modular projects are born that redefine the concept of sleeping space.
