Not every product is ironic or sculptural. Some pursue almost technical precision, while others turn an ordinary function into a small domestic character.<\/p>\n<p>Many Alessi creations belong among the world\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archieinteriors.com\/en\/20-iconic-and-world-famous-italian-design-objects-that-a-design-lover-must-know\/\">most iconic Italian design objects<\/a> because they connect an everyday gesture with a particular author, material and cultural moment.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"alessi-history\">Alessi history since 1921<\/h2>\n<p>In 1921 Giovanni Alessi and his brother founded Fratelli Alessi Omegna, abbreviated as FAO, as a workshop processing sheets of brass and nickel silver with its own foundry. The earliest production looked to the respected Austrian and English traditions of household objects and placed great emphasis on finish.<\/p>\n<p>Carlo Alessi joined the business in 1932 and designed most of the objects made between the mid-1930s and 1945. After the Second World War, the workshop gradually moved towards industrial scale. Stainless steel replaced softer metals during the 1950s, while the company, then known as ALFRA, also specialised in equipment for hotels, restaurants and caf\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/alessi.com\/pages\/history\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">official history<\/a> identifies a new expansion into domestic objects in the 1960s. Alberto Alessi envisioned the company as a cultural workshop open to architects, artists and designers. Manufacturing became a platform for experimenting with forms, symbols and behaviour.<\/p>\n<p>The shift is particularly clear in the research projects of the 1980s. Tea &amp; Coffee Piazza, presented in 1983, invited international architects to design tea and coffee services as miniature buildings. It secured roles for Aldo Rossi and Michael Graves in the catalogue and showed that a tabletop object could convey a much broader idea about the home.<\/p>\n<p>The expression does not describe fantasy detached from reality. The dream emerges through the encounter between creative freedom and practical constraints: moulds, thicknesses, welds, cost, food safety and daily use.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"designers\">Designers who have worked with Alessi<\/h2>\n<p>Alessi has collaborated with authors from very different generations and movements. Ettore Sottsass, Richard Sapper, Achille Castiglioni and Alessandro Mendini belong to the period that transformed the firm into a design factory during the 1970s. They were followed by Aldo Rossi, Michael Graves, Philippe Starck, Stefano Giovannoni, Marcel Wanders, Patricia Urquiola, Zaha Hadid and many more.<\/p>\n<p>The range of responses is the interesting part. Sapper focused on mechanisms and performance; Rossi brought cones, domes and urban memory to the table; Graves used colour and narrative figures; Starck tested the boundary between utensil and sculpture. The profile of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.archieinteriors.com\/en\/aldo-rossi-architecture-design\/\">Aldo Rossi<\/a> explains how La Conica and La Cupola grew from the same typological thinking as his architecture.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"iconic-objects\">The most iconic Alessi objects<\/h2>\n<p>The <strong>9090 espresso coffee maker<\/strong>, designed by Richard Sapper in 1979, combines a stainless-steel body with a lever closure, eliminating the need to screw the two parts together. In every case, recognition comes from the form itself rather than an applied logo.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"production\">Where are Alessi objects made?<\/h2>\n<p>Product conception and development are coordinated in Italy. Alessi states that its historic and more complex cold-formed stainless-steel pieces, including kettles and coffee makers, are manufactured at the Crusinallo di Omegna factory. For other materials and processes, the company works with specialist partners in Italy and abroad.<\/p>\n<p>This distinction, set out in the official information about <a href=\"https:\/\/alessi.com\/collections\/flatware\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alessi production<\/a>, prevents a common oversimplification. The brand is Italian and retains important manufacturing at its historic site, but \u201cMade in Italy\u201d cannot automatically be assigned to every item. Origin, material and care instructions should be checked on the individual product page or label.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"ownership\">Who owns Alessi today?<\/h2>\n<p>Oakley Capital invested through Iconic Holdco in 2019. Alessi\u2019s corporate statement lists the family partnership Carlo ed Ettore di Alberto, Alessio e Stefano Alessi &amp; C. Sapa as holding 60% of ownership rights, with Iconic Holdco (UK) Limited holding 40%.<\/p>\n<p>Oakley, however, describes its investment as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oakleycapital.com\/our-companies\/alessi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">controlling stake acquired in 2019<\/a>. Both descriptions can coexist through the corporate structure and governance agreements. The careful conclusion is that the family and an institutional investor now share ownership and development of the brand, while the family continues to protect its cultural continuity.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"museum\">The Alessi Museum in Omegna<\/h2>\n<p>The Alessi Museum was created in 1998 inside the Omegna factory from an idea by Alessandro Mendini. It preserves more than 25,000 artefacts, including production objects, prototypes, moulds, sketches and research material. The archive makes visible both celebrated successes and the experiments preceding a finished product.<\/p>\n<p>The collection can be visited free of charge by appointment on the days specified by the company. The <a href=\"https:\/\/alessi.com\/pages\/museo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alessi Museum page<\/a> gives booking details and information about its activities. It is valuable because it presents design as a process rather than a sequence of finished icons.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"quality\">Is Alessi a quality brand?<\/h2>\n<p>Quality varies according to the object, material and intended use. The company\u2019s historic stainless-steel expertise is a strong element in metal products; elsewhere, the manufacturing partner, formal complexity and maintenance requirements also matter. Price and a designer\u2019s signature do not replace practical evaluation.<\/p>\n<p>Before buying, it is useful to check the material, dimensions, compatibility with induction hobs or dishwashers, spare-part availability and care instructions. A successful Alessi object combines utility, durability and expressive force.
