Image: OFYR.

Our shortlist of BBQ and grill brands includes Weber, Napoleon, Broil King, Big Green Egg, Kamado Joe, Traeger and OFYR. These seven references cover gas, charcoal, ceramic kamados, wood pellets and wood-fired griddle cooking. The selection is based on documented ranges and useful purchasing differences, rather than comparative testing by our editorial team. Model and price examples reflect the Italian market; local specifications and accessory packages may differ.

Gas, charcoal, pellets or wood?

Gas is worth considering for convenient ignition and independently controlled cooking zones. Charcoal involves more management of lighting, embers and ash, with a different relationship to the fire. A kamado is an insulated charcoal cooker, often with a ceramic body, suited to exploring indirect and longer cooking as well as grilling, provided its weight and operating approach fit your needs.

Cooking pellets fuel electronically controlled grills that also require electricity. They are an option for smoking and controlled indirect cooking. A wood-fired griddle surrounding an open fire provides a more social, open-air experience, distinct from a lidded barbecue. These are different cooking approaches rather than interchangeable formats.

Seven barbecue brands to compare

Brand

Range or model to explore

Comparison focus

Weber

Spirit gas grills and other families

Range and accessories

Napoleon

Freestyle 365

Gas cooking and folding shelves

Broil King

Baron 490 Classic

Rotisserie and included equipment

Big Green Egg

Large ceramic kamado

Modular cooking system

Kamado Joe

Classic Joe II

Cooking-grid arrangement

Traeger

Pro 575 pellet grill

Electronic temperature control

OFYR

Classic+ Corten 100

Griddle plate and wood fire

Weber: a broad range that needs model-specific comparisons

Spirit E-310. The current Spirit E-310 Italian-market model, code 1500864, has three burners with individual Snap-Jet ignition.

The Spirit E-310 name has been used across different generations. It is not enough on its own to establish accessory compatibility. The current product page identifies Weber Works side rails for snap-on accessories, sold separately.

The exact code identifies the equipment and replacement parts. Griddles and rotisseries need to fit the year and version of the barbecue, a more useful detail than a general promise of brand quality.

Napoleon: Freestyle and compact gas grilling

Freestyle 365, from the Italian-market model documentation. Opening the lid also changes the height. These measurements help assess storage and movement, while operating clearances must still follow the manual.

Side burner and gas supply should be identifiable in the quotation. Freestyle configurations differ, and local fuel and regulator requirements need confirmation.

Broil King: Baron for cooks who will use a rotisserie

Baron 490 Classic. The Italian specification includes an electric rotisserie kit, a detail to distinguish from packages where it is optional.

The primary cooking grid measures 65 × 43 cm. The total advertised area also includes an upper rack, which does not necessarily serve the same purpose as the main grid. Compare the surface you actually intend to cook on first.

The range includes Classic, infrared, hybrid and built-in versions. Have the complete model code and supplied equipment listed in the quotation. A freestanding cart model and a unit designed for an outdoor kitchen involve different installation considerations.

Big Green Egg: a kamado cooking system

Large, from the 2026 product catalogue. The Large, with a 46 cm grid diameter, is a useful reference for assessing a medium-sized cooker without confusing the body’s external diameter with usable cooking space.

The cooker itself, a wheeled stand and a complete package are different purchases. For indirect cooking, check whether the appropriate component, such as a convEGGtor, is included rather than assuming every accessory shown in a photograph comes in the box.

EGG, stand, shelves and accessories are separate parts of the price. Delivery matters as well: weight and ceramic components make the route to the final position worth planning.

Kamado Joe: compare series and included equipment

Classic Joe II. Image: Kamado Joe.

Kamado Joe Classic Joe II offers another approach to ceramic charcoal cooking. Its Divide & Conquer system allows different cooking surfaces and levels; the hinge and airflow controls are among the features to examine on the chosen series.

Series I, II and III are not simply different colours of the same grill. Components and configurations change, so a lower price becomes meaningful only after identifying the version being offered.

Dome opening, ash access and shelf space are best assessed in person. Included grids, deflectors and supports need to suit both the kamado size and the cooking planned. Everyday usefulness can matter more than a rarely used option.

Traeger: pellet cooking and temperature control

Pro 575. Image: Traeger.

Traeger Pro 575 is a reference for evaluating an electronically controlled pellet grill with WiFIRE connectivity. Pellets fuel the fire, while the electronic components need a suitable electrical supply for the local-market model.

This category is worth considering for smoking, indirect cooking and longer temperature-controlled sessions. It should not be purchased on the assumption that it provides the same experience as direct-flame grilling or an open fire bowl.

Before ordering, verify the version, electrical requirements, local service and supply of suitable cooking pellets. Heating pellets are not an automatic substitute for the food-cooking fuel specified by the manufacturer. Plan dry fuel storage and access for cleaning ash and grease.

OFYR: making the fire a focus of outdoor living

Classic+ Corten 100. Image: OFYR.

OFYR Classic+ Corten 100 is a wood-fired cooking unit with a circular steel plate around the fire. Cooking takes place on the plate, while the fire bowl becomes part of the outdoor setting and shared experience.

It differs from a closed barbecue and appeals to people who want to gather and cook around the fire, with a suitable place to use it. The plate needs maintenance in accordance with the instructions. The manufacturer highlights cleaning, surface protection and moisture management even where a cover is used.

The configuration needs considering alongside cooking accessories and protection for the paving. Corten develops over time; its appearance and effect on adjacent surfaces deserve attention beyond the picture of a new unit.

How much should you budget?

Weber’s Italian website displayed the Spirit E-310 at €549 including Italian VAT, an indicative reference to reconfirm. The “notify me” option meant the listed price was not a promise of immediate delivery. A gas cylinder and optional accessories were not automatically included.

For a ceramic kamado, Big Green Egg’s Italian 2026 catalogue lists Large at €2,099.99; an Italian retailer offer checked showed the same amount including VAT. Stands and accessory packages are listed separately. These are two specific product references, not the endpoints of a price range covering all grills. Prices, taxes and packages elsewhere may differ substantially.

Allow for what your cooking requires: fuel, a suitable cylinder and regulator where applicable, a cover, a food thermometer, a griddle or an indirect-cooking component. Not every accessory is necessary to begin. Ask for a delivered and assembled total, separating equipment essential to your plan from optional additions.

Measurements that matter more than burner count

Compare the primary grid separately from total cooking area. A warming rack does not always replace the space needed for searing or positioning a roasting tray. Indirect cooking may also require part of the main area to remain away from direct heat.

Measure width with shelves open and folded, depth, open-lid height, space for fuel or electrical connections and the route used to move the grill. Cabinet dimensions do not necessarily include operating clearances.

If the barbecue will form part of an outdoor kitchen, choose a model designed for that installation. A cart barbecue does not become a built-in appliance merely by placing it between cabinets.

Where to buy and what to check in person

Specialist retailers, outdoor showrooms and official channels can explain model and service details. Online, code, equipment and delivery need to be clear. Spare parts, warranty handling and assembly belong in the service comparison.

A visit allows you to assess the lid, grease or ash collection and removal of grids for cleaning. Documentation needs to match the country of purchase; international product photographs cannot establish gas, regulator and electrical requirements.

Combustion barbecues require outdoor use and the clearances specified in their manuals. Confirm that the intended location works with smoke, heat and the surrounding space before buying. The best brand for you is the one offering the cooking approach, clear equipment package and suitable appliance your home actually needs.

Seven BBQ and grill brands compared: gas, charcoal, ceramic kamados, pellets and wood.
