The Marche brand is among the promoters of the exclusive exhibition which from 16 September to 12 October at the Adi Design Museum celebrates the “Trickster” of Design and his works such as the iconic Albero bookcase. Inauguration on September 15th at 6pm.
Milan, September 2025 From 16 September to 12 October 2025, the Adi Design Museum in Milan celebrates the genius of Isao Hosoe. A visionary talent who innovated by rewriting the very concept of design. In particular, his creative path intersected with that of Tonelli Design , a brand that has always bet on the strength of craftsmanship. The result is glass furnishings of great elegance and aesthetics.
A Trickster
Isao Hosoe identified the role of the designer in the figure of the Trickster. In anthropology this term defines an archetype present in many cultures, both Eastern and Western. These are unpredictable figures, capable of violating borders and overcoming barriers and limits. At the same time they introduce innovation, modify the existing situation and bring culture to orderly but immobile societies. In other words, the Trickster surprises and generates instability. He makes great changes possible because his unexpected actions destroy the pre-established order. He is therefore a “moral hero” with the ability to unify or bring opposites into dialogue, making unprecedented connections between things. For this reason, the curatorial approach chosen for the exhibition selects some projects that best highlight IH’s ability to create surprising connections.
Isao Hosoe and Tonelli Design: Tree
The Milanese exhibition will also include a piece that has already become design history and that Isao Hosoe created in 1988. It is Albero, a bookcase that is a historical example of design that is striking for the naturalness of the design and the cleanliness of the shapes. In fact, it is a free standing designer bookcase, which can also be used as a magazine rack, with a rotating glass base on steel spheres. Furthermore, the Albero bookcase can be placed in the living room or study environment: thanks to its glass composition it gives refinement and elegance to the environment and allows you to optimally store books and magazines.
Concept of the exhibition
The exhibition itinerary develops around some key words underlying Isao Hosoe’s philosophy (Game, Behavioral Energy, Fluidity, N [e] omadism, Proxemics, Bricoleur, etc.). Accordingly, these concepts introduce projects.
