Kloris: simple and sustainable design for functional and modern furnishings – Interview with Andrea Giurgola

Kloris is the brand born from the experience of Giurgola , an Italian company with over forty years of history, initially specialized in the production of industrial containers. In recent years, the brand has been able to transform itself, entering the world of designer furniture thanks to the introduction of furnishing accessories in polyethylene , a versatile, recyclable material and particularly suitable for the outdoors.

Unlike many competitors in the sector, Kloris focuses on a simple and linear design , without sacrificing aesthetics and functionality. The brand’s philosophy is to create products that can be easily adapted to different furnishing styles, maintaining affordable costs and an eco-sustainable approach .

In the interview with Archi & Interiors , Andrea Giurgola , administrator of Kloris, tells us how the company balances innovation, sustainability and accessibility, responding to the needs of a constantly evolving market. From the choice of materials to the attention to detail, Kloris represents a new frontier in the world of made in Italy design .

The Giurgola brand has a long and varied history. How has the company changed over the years and what inspired the creation of the Kloris brand?

The Giurgola company is the owner of two brands: ” Giurgola Serbatoi ” and ” Kloris “, which does not replace the first but joins it starting from 2007 when, in addition to the production of containers for water storage, the company also decided to enter the outdoor furniture market and garden pots . The birth of the Kloris brand derives from reasons of production optimization and exquisitely creative motivations, since it offers the technical office the possibility of creating products with greater design content.

Polyethylene has played a fundamental role in the evolution of your products. What makes this material so versatile and suitable for furnishing accessories?

Polyethylene was an inevitable strategic choice as this raw material, compared to metallic materials, has a series of advantages: it is more resistant, it does not undergo oxidation processes determined by galvanic currents, it needs little maintenance, it protects from UV rays, it allows the creation of monolithic products, it favors the industrialization of processes and therefore the abandonment of the artisanal processes that characterized metal processing . Last but not least, polyethylene is a cheaper and recyclable product .

Kloris stands out for its both classic and contemporary products. How does the company manage to maintain a balance between tradition and innovation in design?

Intervista Kloris

The construction of the assortment is determined by market demands, so it is a balance that we must necessarily guarantee to satisfy the required needs.

In the world of design and furniture, which current trends most influence your production? There are particular styles, colors orforms you are exploring?

In our opinion the market is always looking for products with a linear and non-pretentious design . We are therefore not looking for products that are necessarily original and never seen before, but we try to offer models and colors that can be combined and inserted into any furnishing style.

Speaking of sustainability, how important is the use of eco-friendly materials and processes for Kloris? How do you integrate these aspects into your production?

It is essential because the raw material we use is totally recyclable and recoverable and can be pulverized again and used in the production of other company products. An example of this is the line of products for waste water collection that the Giurgola brand has in its assortment.

Your products stand out for the attention to detail and the quality of the raw materials. Can you tell us about the material selection process and how this contributes to the creation of high-end furnishing accessories?

Intervista Kloris Archi&Interiors

The choice of raw materials is a process that lasted years, which led us to identify two main suppliers of the polymer, who create the raw material for us based on technical specifications that we have refined and improved over time.

What are the main reference markets for Kloris, and how do you see the future of the company in the international context?

The reference market is Italy, but having customers who not only export but also sell online, we can say that our products are distributed all over the world .

Do you have new collections or particular products planned for next year? If so, can you give us some previews?

We certainly have 2/3 new products in mind that will complete some of the collections already on the market and furnishing solutions that will expand the existing offer.

Design plays a key role in your furnishing accessories. What are the inspirations behind Kloris counters and other products?

Our inspiration is always the territory . In fact, many of our products, those with the most characteristic design, stylize or recall objects from the Salento and Apulian tradition .

What do you try to convey to customers through your furnishing accessories? What is the philosophy that guides your creative work?

The possibility of furnishing using simple shapes and designs , which each of our customers can easily adapt to their own furnishing needs, trying to keep costs low and always guarantee adequate functionality (which in the world of design is usually a slave to the excessive search for originality).

How do you think your products can influence the environment of a café, restaurant or public space?

In reality we do not try to influence, but to enhance the environment in which our products are placed, always maintaining a neutral approach that does not burden the interior designer’s project.

What challenges did you encounter in the transition from the production of industrial containers to that of furnishing accessories, and how did you overcome them?

As already indicated in the first question, the two production segments coexist and will exist in parallel within our company because they represent apparently different but complementary business areas from the point of view of production optimization.

Kloris: a new paradigm of sustainable and functional design

Therefore, Kloris represents an example of how a company with deep roots in industrial production can transform itself into a key player in the designer furniture sector. With its attention to a simple and clean design , Kloris stands out for its minimalist approach that aims to enhance environments without overloading them, offering versatile solutions that adapt to different furnishing styles. Added to this is the strategic choice of polyethylene , a recyclable material that meets the growing need for sustainability without compromising quality or functionality.

In the current furnishing panorama, where originality and exclusivity dominate, Kloris chooses to focus on products that are accessible, durable and eco-friendly , responding to the needs of a market that increasingly requires attention to costs and sustainability. It is precisely in this balance between simplicity, efficiency and respect for the environment that the brand stands out, offering furnishing accessories that not only aesthetically enrich a space, but do so in a functional and context-respectful way.

With their range of products and the continuous search for innovation, Kloris and Giurgola position themselves as pioneers of responsible design in the furniture sector, demonstrating that it is possible to combine tradition, creativity and sustainability .
