CARLSTADT (New Jersey) and REDMOND (Washington) November 2025 Pantone, a global point of reference in color and color standardization for the world of design, officially presented the beta version of the Pantone Palette Generator , a cutting-edge tool that brings the true intelligence of the Pantone Color Institute into an interactive experience based on artificial intelligence.
Created in collaboration with Microsoft and developed using Azure OpenAI technologies, the Palette Generator is already available as a new feature of Pantone Connect , the digital platform used by millions of professionals to integrate, communicate and control colors in their projects.
The power of AI meets 60 years of color experience
Designed to accelerate the research and inspiration phases in the design process, the Pantone Palette Generator presents itself as a chat-based interface . The user can type a request – for example: “Show me the colors that evoke optimism in Gen Z” or “Create a palette inspired by 70s design” – and obtain in a few seconds a color proposal consistent with the indications, based on real data from the Pantone Color Institute.
For more than 60 years, Pantone has empowered designers creatively, helping them make critical color decisions throughout the design process, says Sky Kelley, President of Pantone. With Microsoft we wanted to create a tool that inspires and speeds up ideation, integrating our research and trend forecasts in a smart and immediate way.
During the beta phase, the tool is open to all registered users of Pantone Connect, even in the free version.
How the Pantone Palette Generator works
Within the Pantone Connect platform, users can:
-
Type natural requests (e.g. calming palette for Nordic interiors).
-
Get color proposals based on thousands of Pantone colors.
-
Deepen the storytelling behind each palette: the system in fact uses a Retrieval-Augmented Generation model, drawing on a vast base of trend forecasting articles created by the Pantone Color Institute.
-
Save the palette, download it as a file, or share it internally in your workflow.
Current support includes the Fashion, Home & Interiors (color for fabrics, objects, walls and furnishings), with progressive extension to the entire Pantone range in the near future.
A technological collaboration that looks to the future of design
The Pantone Palette Generator is built entirely using the Azure AI Foundry infrastructure, with support for services such as Azure AI Search, Azure OpenAI and Azure Cosmos DB . The objective: to guarantee scalability, content security, cross-platform use and the possibility of use in multiple languages.
“Pantone shows the world what it means to driveand innovation with AI. Together, we are demonstrating how AI can unlock new forms of creativity and productivity in the creative industries, says Kathleen Mitford, Corporate Vice President, Global Industry Marketing at Microsoft.
What it means for interior designers and brands in the sector
For architects, interior designers, home stagers and producers, the tool represents a turning point in various fields:
-
Reduction of chromatic search times
-
Direct access to authoritative content , not generated out of thin air
-
Smooth digital integration into your presentation and design flow
-
Immediate visual and narrative support for moodboards and concepts
It is no longer a question of choosing a color by sensation, but of visualizing the perfect palette for a specific target or for a visual identity consistent with real trends.
Pantone Connect and new digital features
The Palette Generator is part of a broader Pantone digital strategy, which also already sees the new function Design Mode active within the Adobe extension. At the center is the objective of reducing clicks, streamlining steps and bringing greater intelligence into creative flows.
Users can access Pantone Connect from a browser, mobile app, or as an extension for Adobe® Creative Cloud®.
