The cosmopolitan Rook is one of the Italian brand’s lighting design innovations that captivate from the first glance.
Milan, July 2025 It is a meeting between materials, technological research and boundless creativity in the name of light. In fact, after the preview at the Milan Design Week, Tonelli Design , a glass brand but not only , unleashes the creative flair of designer Karim Rashid to rewrite the lighting concept with Rook, the new lamp that strikes at the heart.
The concept
The Rook lamp is characterized by the balance between shape and colour. In particular, the mouth-blowing glass technique gives the lamp an artisanal charm and a unique imperfection that tells the story of each piece. At the same time, the diffusion of light through the shiny and opaque colored glass creates a lively and pleasant atmosphere. The shape, soft and delicate, contrasts with the strength of the colors which confirms the new experimental path undertaken by the brand.
Blown glass: the latest evolution of the brand
The introduction of blown glass is Tonelli’s latest evolution in experimenting with various forms of glass. In this case, the use of Murano blown glass is a very different technique from our float glass, but equally fascinating, extremely artisanal and unique in the world, distinctive of a very specific geographical area and linked to the extraordinary experience of the Murano glass masters.
Explosion of colors
The range of colors was born from the research of designer Karim Rashid, known for his inventiveness in the choice of shapes and colors and the typical shades of blown glass. For this reason, the intention was to create a harmonious effect, in the combination of colour, shape and brightness, working with different degrees of opacity and brilliance of the glass.
Tonelli & Karim Rashid, a collaboration lasting over twenty years
Rook is the first table lamp designed by Karim Rashid for Tonelli design, who has collaborated with the company for over 20 years, designing some of our most iconic products.
It is no coincidence that, presented as a preview during Design Week 2025 in the new “Zenucchi Code” showroom in the center of Milan, then the protagonist at our stand at the Salone del Mobile, the Rook lamp immediately attracted the attention of the market and the mass media, confirming how the combination of design and technology is still the winning strategic lever of our brand.
