The Kirk convertible sofa, designed by Karim Rashid, is born from the encounter between the free energy of jazz and a contemporary vision of living. Inspired by the improvisational genius of Rahsaan Roland Kirk, the sofa interprets the theme of transformability with a refined and surprising language, where aesthetics and function interact naturally. Its fluid and organic shapes, a hallmark of Rashid’s “sensual minimalism,” remove any visual rigidity to create a welcoming, dynamic, and strongly identifiable object.
Like a jazz composition, Kirk thrives on the balance between structure and creative freedom: its design precision is accompanied by a formal lightness that makes it ideal for contemporary, fluid, and constantly evolving spaces. An elegant and discreet sofa by day, a spacious and comfortable bed by night, Kirk introduces a new rhythm to the space, expressing an idea of advanced and personal comfort.
The design is expressed through full volumes, curved lines, and measured details; a variant with contrasting piping adds a distinctive, discreet yet surprising accent.
A distinctive feature of the project is the sideway sleeping, a solution that redefines the traditional sofa bed. Thanks to the Lampolet mechanism, the sofa bed converts into a bed by reducing the occupied front space, thus optimizing the layout of the room and offering a generous sleeping surface. A smart solution to the needs of living, where functionality and well-being must coexist in perfect balance.
The cover is removable and washable according to the fabric chosen, while its dismantlement facilitates transport and accessibility even in the most difficult-to-reach spaces.
