BertO’s David Sofa Selected for the ADI Design Index 2026 and the Compasso d’Oro

The David sofa by BertO, designed by Castello Lagravinese Studio, has been selected for the ADI Design Index 2026: movable backrests, tray armrests with wireless charging and circular economy construction.

The David sofa by BertO has been selected for the ADI Design Index 2026, the annual publication that brings together the best Italian design projects and serves as the preselection for the ADI Compasso d’Oro, the most prestigious national award in the sector.

A transformable sofa designed by Castello Lagravinese Studio

Designed by Castello Lagravinese Studio and developed together with the BertO Research and Development team, David offers a new idea of comfort based on transformability, compositional freedom and adaptability. The system of movable backrests makes it possible to change the depth and support of the seat with a simple gesture, adapting to different postures and moments of use.

The armrests also become functional elements: they can be configured as soft feather-filled rests or as natural oak trays, with discreetly integrated USB-C ports and wireless charging.

24 elements for linear, corner and chaise longue compositions

Inspired by David Bowie’s ability to move across different forms and languages without losing his identity, the sofa keeps a recognisable character in every configuration. Its modular structure, made up of 24 combinable elements, allows for linear and corner compositions or layouts with chaise longues designed for relaxation and home cinema.

Circular economy: a sofa that can be disassembled and has removable covers

Innovation also extends to its Circular Economy construction: the steel frame, pre-tensioned straps and reversible connections replace many of the elements typical of traditional upholstery. The David sofa can be fully disassembled and inspected, and all its covers are removable; individual components can be replaced and separated, supporting maintenance, durability and the recovery of materials at the end of their life.

The production process also incorporates BertO Eco Seal Master, the gluing system that eliminates harmful solvents and reduces the amount of glue needed, increasing safety for both employees and customers.

BertO, between craftsmanship and digital innovation

BertO’s growth, led by CEO Filippo Berto, has combined craftsmanship with the digitalisation of production processes, optimising lead times, quality and the customer purchasing experience. The company was a digital pioneer in the sector, with the first dedicated blog and innovative campaigns, and was recognised by Google as a Case Study. BertO communicates directly with its customers without intermediaries, strengthening its relationship with those who choose its products and personally overseeing every stage: from design and production to delivery and after-sales service.

From 1 to 15 October 2026, the David sofa is on display at the ADI Design Museum in Milan, alongside the excellence of contemporary Italian design. It is now available in all BertO showrooms, where personalised consultations can be arranged.
