Poltrona Frau was born in Turin in 1912 from the intuition of Renzo Frau , an entrepreneur of Sardinian origins who knew how to combine elegance and craftsmanship, transforming the armchair into a symbol of Italian design. In 1962 the company was acquired by the Nazareno Gabrielli group and the following year it transferred production to Tolentino , in the Marche region, where all its furnishings are still made today.

The creative heart remains the armchair , flanked by sofas , beds , tables , chairs and accessories which combine comfort and unmistakable style.

The history of the brand is marked by excellent collaborations: in 1965 Gio Ponti signed the Dezza armchair , awarded for its innovative design, while over time models such as Chester , Vanity Fair and Archibald were born, today recognized as icons of Made in Italy. Each piece is the result of artisanal savoir-faire that is expressed in leather Pelle Frau® , in the robustness of the solid wood structures and in the attention to detail.

A distinctive element to understand how to recognize an authentic product is the brand imprinted on the wooden structure, difficult to replicate, accompanied by the certificate of authenticity that accompanies each piece. Since 2014 Poltrona Frau has been part of the US group Haworth , global leader in contract furniture, and since 2025 it has been included in the Haworth Lifestyle federation, which brings together some of the most popular brands prestigious names in design and luxury.

International growth has led the brand Poltrona Frau to open showrooms in the main design capitals, with Milan as a point of reference, where the flagship store in Via Manzoni welcomes enthusiasts and professionals. Also in Lombardy it is a dedicated outlet is active, while in Tolentino, in addition to the production site, there are the Poltrona Frau Museum and the Gallery Outlet .
