ALA Association of Architects & Engineers: a network for design quality and technical professions

ALA Association of Architects & Engineers, known as ALA, is one of the most representative associations for Italian freelance architects and engineers.

The association promotes the shared interests of technical professions. It brings together architects, engineers, landscape architects, planners, conservators, freelance designers and young professionals approaching the field.

Its work stems from a central objective: improving the quality of life in Italy through the quality of design. For this reason, ALA supports good design, the proper execution of public and private works, the protection of the landscape and the safeguarding of the environment.

The mission

ALA’s mission begins with a broad vision of design. Architecture and engineering are not only technical activities, but cultural, social and professional tools.

The association works to strengthen the role of local professionals. It also encourages dialogue with European and international organisations, within a perspective of shared responsibility and cultural growth.

Along this path, ALA promotes activities dedicated to the progressive sustainability of projects. The aim is to increase awareness of the issues transforming cities, landscapes and living spaces.

Design quality thus becomes a collective value. It concerns professionals, but also communities, institutions, companies and citizens.

The role of ALA in architecture and engineering

ALA plays an active role in the debate on architecture, urban planning, territorial transformation and heritage protection. Its attention also extends to landscape, the environment and the quality of public and private spaces.

The association operates through conferences, exhibitions, publications and cultural initiatives. It also promotes opportunities for discussion designed to spread good design practices.

Alongside its cultural dimension, ALA collaborates with the Italian Government, Regions and Municipalities. In this way, it helps raise awareness of the issues affecting technical professions and the wider community.

The Dedalo Minosse International Prize

Among the most significant initiatives promoted by ALA is the Dedalo Minosse International Prize for Commissioning a Building.

The award is unique on the international scene. It places at the centre not only the designer, but also the client who has been able to support and enhance a quality architectural project.

Now in its 14th edition, the Prize has involved professionals, institutions and clients from all over the world. Over time, it has become an important tool for spreading architectural culture and encouraging dialogue between design and society.

Through Dedalo Minosse, ALA highlights virtuous examples of innovation, sustainability and attention to context. It also promotes the relationship between those who design, those who commission and those who experience the completed spaces.

Relations, culture and territory

ALA strengthens collaborations and cultural exchanges with political bodies, regulatory organisations and administrative institutions. It also maintains dialogue with cultural associations and organisations committed to protecting historical, artistic, landscape and environmental heritage.

Its activity is based on a clear awareness: technical professions have a direct impact on communities and on the country. For this reason, the association promotes education, dialogue and active proposals.

Particular attention is also given to education. The relationship with schools, students and teachers helps keep alive the dialogue between profession, culture and society.

A national forum for local professions

ALA aims to encourage the creation of a national forum among representatives of professions connected to territory and environment.

This space is intended to give professionals a voice. At the same time, it makes it possible to share ideas and address design issues that affect local communities and the country as a whole.

To achieve this goal, the association values professional experience as a central resource. Architects, engineers and designers are called upon to interpret complex issues and propose conscious responses.

From this perspective, ALA presents itself as a platform for cultural and professional exchange. Its commitment is oriented towards architectural quality, design responsibility and the growth of technical professions.

The partnership with Archi&Interiors

The presence of ALA Association of Architects & Engineers on Archi&Interiors stems from a shared vision. To tell the story of design means giving space to expertise, professional responsibility, architectural culture and attention to the territory.

On one side, there is an association that promotes the role of freelance architects and engineers. On the other, an editorial project that explores architecture, interior design and living culture with an accessible, authoritative language close to professionals.

This collaboration therefore becomes an opportunity to examine key themes for the future of design in Italy. These include the quality of public and private works, the sustainability of interventions, landscape protection, the enhancement of commissioning and the cultural role of technical professions.
