Salone del Mobile 2026: the debut of collectible design and the new centrality of contract

Salone del Mobile 2026: the debut of collectible design and the new centrality of contract

The 64th edition of the Salone del Mobile.Milano presents itself as a change of pace that is more strategic than scenographic: less of an “event within an event”, more of a cultural infrastructure and market platform. At the presentation press conference – followed today by our editorial team – the direction was clear: broaden the scope of the project (and its audiences) without distorting the industrial matrix of the fair. From 21 to 26 April 2026, in the spaces of Fiera Milano in Rho, the Show returns with a map of contents that tries to keep together three very hot axes: collectible design, kitchen/bathroom as a technological laboratory, and contract as a new “systemic” terrain of contemporary living.

In short: dates, numbers and news to note

  • When : 21–26 April 2026, Fiera Milano Rho

  • Size : over 1,900 exhibitors from 32 countries , 169,000 m2 net already sold out

  • New format : Salone Raritas , platform curated on collectible design

  • Return of the Biennials : EuroCucina + FTK and International Bathroom Exhibition

  • Route 2027 : start of the path towards Salone Contract (OMA Masterplan: Koolhaas/Gianotten)

  • Sustainability : the ISO 20121 path confirmed, with renewal announced for the three-year period 2026–2028

  • Talents : SaloneSatellite with 700 designers under 35 and theme “Skilled Craftsmanship + Innovation”

From the “big show” to the platform: what changes in 2026

It is useful to read 2026 also by difference. 2025 had brought an openly “cinematic” energy to the story of the Salone, with installations and big names capable of occupying the city and the media: from the monumental Library of Light by Es Devlin in Brera, up to Mother by Robert Wilson at the Castello Sforzesco, passing through The sweet wait signed by Paolo Sorrentino.
In 2026, without giving up the cultural dimension, the center of gravity shifts: fewer “cover” icons, more work on the structure of the offer. In other words: the fair tries to speak even more directly to professionals, companies and decision makers, reorganizing the contents as a mature editorial system would do.

Salone Raritas: collectible design enters the fair (for real)

Salone Raritas 2026: il nuovo percorso del Salone del Mobile dedicato al design da collezione e alle edizioni limitate

The novelty that most redesigns the positioning of the Show is Salone Raritas , conceived as a “selective” platform dedicated to collectible design : limited editions, unique pieces, historical and outsider archetypes, high manufacturing and researched antiques. The curatorship is entrusted to Annalisa Rosso , with exhibition design by Formafantasma .

The point is not only to introduce a new sector, but to recognize a market that in recent years has often lived “on the margins” of the Salon, between galleries, districts and dynamics closer to art collecting. Here, however, the declared intention is to build a bridge: to put ingalleries and designers dialogue with international decision makers and with the professional design market, offering a clear and curated perimeter in which to discover and acquire collectible works and furnishings.

Among the 25 exhibitors announced there are companies such as Nilufar , Collectional , Salviati x Draga & Aurel , Mouromtsev Design Editions , Mercado Moderno , Bianco67 , Brun Fine Art .
And to amplify the experiential dimension, a special project signed by Sabine Marcelis is also planned, built – as expected from her language – on the relationship between light, matter and perception.

Raritas is a response to the theme of longevity and value over time. In a sector where innovation runs fast, the idea of ??”rarity” shifts the conversation to durability, care, archive and collectability: not as nostalgia, but as a contemporary metric of the project.

The return of the Biennials: EuroCucina/FTK and Salone del Bagno

salone del mobile 2026 eurocucina

In the heart of the 64th edition the Biennials return, and it is not a “ritual” return: kitchen and bathroom are today the two environments in which the house most clearly shows its transformation into a technical, sensorial and sustainable system.

EuroCucina 2026 + FTK: the kitchen as a hybrid (and intelligent) space

EuroCucina with FTK – Technology For the Kitchen brings to the fair the story of a kitchen that is increasingly less a “room” and more and more an ecosystem : hybridization of contexts, desire for the outdoors, sustainability and integration of artificial intelligence as an invisible infrastructure of the experience.
At a market level, the numbers confirm the centrality: 106 brands from 17 countries .

What to expect (from a design perspective):

  • surfaces and materials designed for performance, maintenance, tactility;

  • integrated and less exhibited technologies (“calm” interfaces);

  • household appliances as platforms (data, automation, efficiency).

International Bathroom Exhibition 2026: the home spa becomes a high standard

Collezione DES Evolution Cerasa, icona del Made in Italy

In parallel, the Salone del Bagno pushes on the idea of advanced well-being: comfort, water efficiency, calibrated light, discreet smart devices and an increasingly sensorial materiality. The announced brands are 163 from 14 countries .

Here the key word is not “luxury” in the decorative sense, but longevity : solutions that work on durability, ergonomics, ease of use, waste reduction, air and water quality.

A Luxury Way and “Aurea”: when luxury becomes a spatial story

salone del mobile 2026 A Luxury Way

Along the route A Luxury Way (pavilions 13–15) Aurea takes shape. An Architectural Fiction , immersive installation created by Maison Numéro 20 : an “imaginary hotel” built as a sequence of narrative spaces, between art deco suggestions, cinematographic references and attention to sustainabilityity.

The interesting fact here is methodological: luxury is treated as a script . It doesn’t just show objects, but builds a grammar of experience (rhythm, light, pauses, thresholds), also useful to those who design hospitality and high-end residences: because it talks about perception, not just style.

Towards Salone Contract: from the product to the system (the biggest game)

Another novelty, destined to become central in 2027, is the Salone Contract project, with Masterplan entrusted to Rem Koolhaas and David Gianotten (OMA) .
The thesis is clear: in rapidly growing sectors – hospitality, retail, real estate, marine – the value shifts from the single product to the ability to offer integrated solutions : systems, skills, services, specifications, times, logistics, assistance, performance.

Thematic itineraries and moments of in-depth analysis will begin to appear as early as 2026, including a lectio magistralis by Koolhaas.

Critical reading (useful to companies): “contract” is not a commercial label. It is a change in maturity: it asks design to speak the language of complexity (regulations, maintenance, durability, impact, supply chain), without losing identity. Those who manage to do this enter into projects that are not measured in pieces sold, but in long-term relationships.

Wayfinding, countryside and sustainability: matter as a common thread

In terms of the visitor experience, the Show declares a concrete investment in the orientation and readability of the fair: a new wayfinding system developed by Leftloft , designed to simplify routes and make navigation between pavilions and contents clearer.

Holding the narrative together is the “A Matter of Salone” campaign, which puts the matter back at the center as the origin of the project: from gesture to form, and from form to meaning.

And on the sustainability front, the renewal of the ISO 20121 certification for the sustainable management of events (three-year period 2026–2028) is announced, with an approach that brings materials, processes and supply chains into a more circular and measurable logic.

SaloneSatellite 2026: “Skilled Craftsmanship + Innovation”

SaloneSatellite 2026 “Skilled Craftsmanship + Innovation”

Completes the picture SaloneSatellite , with 700 designers under 35 from 43 countries and the presence of 23 international schools and universities .
The 2026 theme is “Skilled Craftsmanship + Innovation” : craftsmanship as a contemporary device, capable of communicating with technology and industry without losing expressive intensity.

Here it is worth being clear: craftsmanship does not come back as a “style”. It returns as strategic competence . In a market saturated with images, the difference is often what you feel in your hands: joints, textures, precision, weight, finishes. It is a quality that is not easily imitated, and for this reason it becomes a competitive advantage.

An increasingly international exhibition (and hybrid between design and art)

The press conference insisted anthan on international work: roadshows in Europe and new directions on strategic markets (USA, India, Middle East), with a collaboration started with Art Basel and the aim of strengthening the presence of Italian design in contexts where contamination with art is now part of the market.

It is a piece consistent with Raritas: the Salon is not “imitating” art, but is recognizing that design today moves on multiple levels of value (industrial, cultural, collecting) and that these levels coexist in the same ecosystem.

What it means for those who visit (designers, companies, buyers): 5 practical take-aways

  1. Go with a question, not with a list : Raritas, Contract and Biennali ask for a “curated” visit, not just a panoramic one.

  2. Reading the kitchen as a technology of living : it is no longer just layout, but the relationship between data, energy, materials and rituals.

  3. In the bathroom look for silent quality : comfort, efficiency, light and maintenance are the new luxury.

  4. For companies: prepare for the contract as a system (specifications, times, assistance, measurable sustainability).

  5. For designers: craftsmanship = future if it becomes a method (prototyping, supply chains, hybridization with technology).
