Six wall clock brands, from designer pieces and contemporary cuckoos to traditional dials, with dimensions, movement details and Italian price examples.
A wall clock can give a room as much character as a picture, but it should also make the time easy to read from the table, sofa or worktop. A convincing choice combines scale, hand contrast, materials and a movement suited to the room.
Our selection of wall clock brands includes Alessi, Vitra, Nomon, Progetti, Arti&Mestieri and Seiko. It compares designer pieces, large wall compositions, contemporary cuckoo clocks and traditional dials, using manufacturers’ documentation. The order is not an accuracy ranking, and these are not editorially tested recommendations. Availability varies by country.

Six wall clock brands to compare
First identify where you will read the clock from. A dial that looks striking in a product photograph may be hard to read across the room or against bright light. For a large piece, a paper template on the wall gives a useful sense of scale before ordering.
| Brand and model | Character | Before buying |
|---|---|---|
| Alessi · Firenze | Roman numerals, 36 cm diameter | Colour and contrast in the room |

| Progetti · Trikky | Wooden cuckoo clock with pendulum | Sound controls and clearance below |

| Seiko · QXA529B | Traditional dial with Quiet Sweep | Local availability of the model |
Alessi: Firenze and a distinctive readable dial

Firenze, designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, is an Alessi ABS wall clock with a quartz movement. The black 12 B version has a 36 cm diameter and contrasting white Roman numerals.
It is an option for a designer clock with a relatively compact footprint. The product sheet states that this version is made in China: an Italian brand name does not establish the manufacturing origin of every item. Our guide to Alessi’s history and iconic objects provides further context.
Vitra: George Nelson’s Ball Clock

The Ball Clock belongs to Vitra’s George Nelson clock collection. Spheres, rods and hands form a dial without numbers; the family uses wood and metal with quartz movements. Vitra began reissuing Nelson Clocks in 1999.
The reference to twentieth-century design comes with a practical choice: contrast between hands, spheres and wall. Reading an unnumbered dial feels intuitive to many people, but remains a personal preference.
Nomon: Barcelona Premium at an architectural scale

Barcelona Premium is a substantial wall composition. Its technical sheet gives a 90 cm ring diameter and 103 cm overall height. The documented specification combines walnut, brass details and black or brass-finish fiberglass rings, with a German UTS mechanism.
The ring is only part of the footprint. The assembly drawing and exact variant define the full composition; materials and finishes elsewhere in the family do not automatically apply to it.
Progetti: Trikky and the contemporary cuckoo clock

Trikky, model 2645 by Progetti C.R., is a wall cuckoo clock in solid walnut or oak with a triangular pendulum. The manufacturer specifies a battery-powered movement, a light sensor that stops the cuckoo in darkness and controls to adjust or switch off the sound.
The cuckoo function belongs to the pleasure of the object as much as its outline. Sound controls and pendulum clearance matter; a light sensor follows the light detected rather than a fixed night schedule.
Arti&Mestieri: Wallpaper and depth in iron

Wallpaper by Arti&Mestieri is an Italian-made iron wall clock measuring 60 × 60 cm. Its shaped surface creates depth and shadows. The official page describes an ultra-quiet quartz movement powered by an AA battery.
Texture interacts with daylight, provided the finish and hands leave the time readable. The manufacturer’s quietness description applies to this model, rather than an acoustic test by the magazine.
Seiko: a traditional dial with Quiet Sweep

Seiko Clocks also offers traditional designs for readers who prefer familiar numbers and hands. The QXA529B, documented in the official UK store, has a dark oak octagonal case, a white dial and dimensions of 33.2 × 32.2 × 4.6 cm.
Its specification includes a Quiet Sweep second hand and one AA battery. This is a specific option to discuss when reduced ticking matters. Check the product code and availability locally, as regional collections can differ.
How much should you spend on a wall clock?
Two indicative prices from Italian official shops give a sense of scale; amounts and availability need reconfirming:
- Alessi Firenze black 12 B: displayed price €79.
- Arti&Mestieri Wallpaper black/ivory: €168 including taxes; its page showed incoming stock, with delivery calculated at checkout.
These are model-specific Italian prices, not worldwide price bands or the limits of the category. For large compositions and crafted cuckoo clocks, compare the exact finish, delivery, assembly and replacement movement support. A product appearing in a catalogue is not necessarily ready to ship.
Size and readability before ordering
Measure the whole object, including rings, rays and pendulum. Look at hand contrast from the position where you will use it and consider reflections or backlighting. In a kitchen, placement relative to cooking and cleaning matters; above a sofa, consider its relationship with other wall pieces.
Weight, fixing points and wall construction determine the installation of large clocks. Battery access and removal without disturbing a multi-part arrangement are worth resolving before mounting.
Is a quartz wall clock always silent?
No. Quartz describes time regulation, rather than guaranteeing silence. In bedrooms and studies, model-specific movement information and listening in a quiet shop can help. Cuckoo sound, volume and muting are separate features.
Where to buy and how to compare offers
Official shops, authorised design retailers and specialist clock shops are useful channels. Seeing a display model helps with scale, materials and sound; when buying online, obtain the exact specification and enough photographs to understand side depth as well as the face.
Code, finish, full dimensions, movement, battery, mounting, delivery and spares define the order. For historic designs, manufacturer and provenance identify an authorised reissue beyond a similar appearance. A successful clock belongs in the room and remains pleasant to read every day.
