Bontempi

For more than sixty years, Bontempi has been shaping an idea of Italian design built on balance, functionality and design quality, where craftsmanship goes hand in hand with innovation. It all began in 1963 in Camerano, when brothers Alessandro and Giancarlo Bontempi opened a small metalworking forge. Since then, the brand has been making furniture designed for everyday life: elegant, comfortable and carefully detailed.
Every product is conceived, designed and built in Italy, along a fully Made in Italy supply chain where artisans work alongside state-of-the-art machinery. Carefully selected materials, rigorous testing and a long manufacturing tradition go into furniture that lasts and fits naturally into contemporary interiors. This is also why Bontempi is today a benchmark name in made in Italy design furniture.
Total Living Solution
The catalogue covers the whole home: fixed and extendable tables, coffee tables, consoles and desks; chairs, stools and armchairs; sofas, poufs and rugs; bookcases, sideboards, mirrors and lighting. Tables, seating, upholstered pieces and accessories are designed to work together, so that a room can be furnished with a consistent language, in private homes and contract projects alike.
Customisation is one of the brand’s most recognisable traits, an almost tailor-made approach applied to industrial production: with 360 fabric, 70 leather, 15 metal and 14 wood finishes, materials, sizes and combinations can be chosen to suit the space being furnished.
Certified quality and international awards
A wide selection of products is certified by COSMOB and CATAS: two certifications awarded after demanding strength and durability tests, which attest to the lasting quality of the products.
Over the years, many awards have followed. In 1987 the Delfina chair won the Compasso d’Oro, and in 2024 the Doris armchair received the Red Dot Design Award. 2025 brought the German Design Award for the Musa sideboard, the Archiproducts Design Award for the Eden sideboard, the Top of Design Award for the Kimono table and the Amelie chair, and three International Design Awards: Gold for the Astra lamp, Silver for the Opera chair and Bronze for the Kaleido table. In 2026 a new Red Dot Design Award went to the Petra armchair, designed by studio e-ggs.
From generational transition to international growth
In 2010 the company went through an important generational transition: Michele, Massimiliano, Laura and Annalisa Bontempi took up the founders’ vision, renewed the catalogues and communication, and introduced digital tools such as the online configurator. It was a choice that strengthened the relationship with architects and designers and brought the brand closer to the present day.
In 2021 Bontempi joined the Colombini Group, a family-run company that brings together six complementary furniture brands. This strategic move opened up new synergies and supports the brand’s international expansion; today Bontempi is present through a network of qualified retailers in Italy and abroad and with its Flagship Store in Milan.
The Milan Flagship Store
On Via Turati, in the centre of Milan, the Flagship Store is Bontempi’s home in the city. Its furnished settings present the new collection and let visitors see and touch samples, fabrics and finishes, book a consultation with qualified staff and plan their own space with the Room Configurator, which shows the result before any choice is made. It is conceived as a meeting place between the brand and people, rather than as a simple showroom.
Collections and iconic products
Among the most recognisable pieces are the Delfina chair, a timeless classic, and the Doris armchair, comfortable and essential. Alongside them, other products that have become true icons over time capture the brand’s style and philosophy:
- Petra armchair: winner of the Red Dot Design Award 2026, it is defined by a continuous line running from the backrest to the armrests, creating an enveloping profile. The compact shell rests on a slender painted metal base that lightens the upholstered volume.
- Kaleido table: imposing and sculptural, it is recognisable by its triangular base, which recalls the symmetries of a kaleidoscope. The top can be customised in shape and size, making the table a statement piece.
- Bach table: rectangular or barrel-shaped, fixed or extendable, it pairs a lacquered steel frame with tops in fine materials such as wood, glass, SuperCeramica and SuperMarmo.
- Victor sofa: clean lines and made-to-measure modular elements make it a contemporary sofa that adapts easily to different spaces; the optional armrests bring lightness and movement to the composition.
- Amelie chairs: tapered legs and an upholstered shell for comfortable, refined seating, with coverings ranging from technical fabrics to selected leathers.
- Doris armchair: compact, swivelling and enveloping, it fits into living rooms, reading corners and contract spaces. Its minimal design invites relaxation.
- Olympia sideboard: doors in SuperCeramica or SuperMarmo, with luminous surfaces and refined finishes, make it an elegant, contemporary piece.
